Dyspareunia
What is this?

Dyspareunia is a catch-all term for pain during sex or after sex. I work with men and women who are experiencing pelvic pain to feel better. It can be very isolating to live with pain. I’ll give you skills and resources to understand your condition once a physician has diagnosed you accurately.
Some types of dyspareunia:
Sex therapy will never require you to take off your clothes in session with me. You won’t have to demonstrate anything. But this is hard work and I may require you to practice new skills at home in between sessions or with a pelvic floor specialist.

Vaginismus
What is this?
One of the most common types of sexual dysfunctions for women is Vaginimus. Vaginimus is not the same as pain during sex although trying to force penetration can cause pain. Vaginismus is a condition that results in the contraction of the vaginal walls to the point that it is difficult or impossible to penetrate. This may make sex or even using tampons very near impossible.
As many as 7-16% of women may struggle with this disorder. If you have been unable to consummate your marriage because you clench up during sex and a doctor has diagnosed you with vaginimus, then sex therapy may be one puzzle piece to getting better.

Are you going to examine me down there too?
No. I understand that you may have been hurt before by past therapists who shamed you for this very normal condition, or by medical professionals who caused you great pain during their examinations. I’ll go slow to help you move through the trauma of these experiences through talk therapy.
I'm already being treated for this issue...
Yes, you may already be getting a lot of what you need to heal from other professionals. I work with urologists, OBGYNs, and pelvic floor specialists in a team approach.
How does sex therapy help?

As a sex therapist, I can teach you real tools to feel grounded in sex and experience pleasure. You may need to unlearn some unhealthy beliefs about your body and your ability to have sex. I will work with you to fill in the gaps of what you know and don’t know about your body. Therapy can also help you work through feelings of anger, resentment, and insecurity so that you and your partner can get back to what’s important- each other. If you're trying to conceive, I don't want pain to be a barrier on your path to parenthood. At the end of your journey, I want you to have the sex life you’ve always dreamed of.
